Margaret Mary "Peg" (McMullen) Bettencourt, 94, of Battle Creek and formerly of Adrian died peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Heritage, where she resided since October 2016.
Peg was born February 16, 1923 in Taunton, Massachusetts to John and Mary (Orpen) McMullen. She grew up in Taunton, Massachusetts and was a Taunton High School graduate. In addition to being a wonderful homemaker, she managed a Hallmark Store in Adrian, Michigan for 20 years.
Peg was united in marriage to Thomas R. Bettencourt on October 12, 1949 in Taunton. Sadly she was preceded in death by Tom, her husband of 40 years on November 27, 1989. Surviving are her daughter, Regina (Archie) Crooks of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Brad (Aimee) Lemon of Marshall, Ryan (Nicole) Lemon of Ypsilanti, Kathleen Ford of Austin, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Gillian, Emily and Quinlan; a Godson and nephew, Thomas Gregg; a niece, Connie Mowry and four nephews, James, George, Mark and William Gregg.. In addition to her husband, Peg was also preceded in death by a son, John Bettencourt and a sister, Ann Greg.
Peg was a longtime member of both St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Churches in Adrian. She was an avid reader and Bridge player. She will be remembered as a proud Irish Catholic, a competitive Bridge player and a wonderful friend. She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. There wasn't a clothing store she wouldn't spend a day in, if she could. Peg loved sending and receiving cards and she kept every card she has received in the last 30+ years.
Friends will be received 10:00 â 11:00 a.m. today, Thursday at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. today, Thursday, December 28, 2017. Inurnment will be held in the spring of 2018 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton, Massachusetts.
The staff at the Heritage was wonderful and the Hospice staff were our angels. Hospice made this transition truly a spiritual and miraculous event.
