Margaret Madalyn (Weaver) Black of Hickory Corners, MI

Maggie, age 94, died Thursday afternoon, June 7, 2018 in Battle Creek, MI, with her loving family by her side and following a brief illness.

Margaret, the daughter of Bernard Franklin Weaver and Mitta Ernestine (nee'Pettit) Weaver, was born in Flint, MI on December 5, 1923. She was a 1941 graduate of Mt. Morris High School. She then attended Hurley School of Nursing and was valedictorian of her class. Maggie served her Country honorably and nobly during World War II in the United States Army Nurse Corp, achieving the rank of Second Lt. and was honorably discharged following the end of WWII.

Margaret was united in Marriage to John William Black in Washington on September 26th, 1945, and they settled in Kalamazoo. Maggie began her career in Kalamazoo, working as an industrial nurse for Ingersoll Steel and Eaton Manufacturing, all the while assisting her husband in building Pemco Wheel Company (Pemco Kalamazoo, Inc.). Maggie then worked for Borgess Hospital, where she was employed for nearly three decades and most of the years were spent in the Obstetrics and Delivery Department. Margaret retired in 1986 from Borgess Hospital of Kalamazoo, MI. John sadly preceded her in death on May 16, 2004.

Maggie was a member of St. Patrick's Anglican Catholic Church of Comstock, MI. Maggie was avidly interested in music, gardening, travel and bird watching. She was active until just recently in The Battle Creek Chorus of Sweet Adelines, singing four part A cappella harmony, where she was named Sweet Adeline of the Year a few years back. The Chorus boasts winning First Place, Division A in the regional competition, two years in a row. For Many years, Maggie was a volunteer at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary. Throughout her life, Maggie nursed any and all injured wildlife, travelled many places to see nature's beauty, and always carried a song in her heart.

Maggie is survived by three daughters, Darla B. (Richard) Coult of Augusta, MI, Janice B. (James L.) Campbell of Eden UT and Marilyn B. (Michael) Kidd of Delton, MI; eight precious grandchildren, Maggie Coult Clark (Michael), JD Coult (Nicole), Karen Campbell Winden (Ryan), Katherine Campbell Forsberg(Christopher), James J. Cambell, Jonathan Kidd, Christopher Kidd, David Kidd and four great grandchildren; Abigail, Hannah, and Madeline Clark, Cameron Colt, and James William Forsberg. All of the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren remember their grandmother with love, and have happy memories of the family time spent at her home. Margaret was also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Faye.

The Funeral Mass to celebrate Margaret's life will be held on Wednesday, June 13th at 10:00 a.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89) with Father David Cottle, Rector of St. Patrick's, officiating. Margaret's family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. to service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow next to her beloved husband, John at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta with the United States Army Honor Guard and the Fort Custer Honor Guard bestowing full military honors. Memorial contributions in Margaret's honor may be directed to the donor's choice.
