Margaret Mae Butler passed away on September 14, 2015. She was born on June 14, 1926 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to George and Elinor (Heuer) Erhardt. She met and married her husband, Donald Butler, in Fort Wayne and moved to Battle Creek. She worked as a secretary at Post Cereal Company for six years, retiring to become a mother of three daughters and create a wonderful and happy life for her family.
Margaret was a fantastic baker and found much pleasure providing family and friends with many pies and desserts. She volunteered at Leila Hospital and participated in the Leila Follies for several years. She was also a talented oil painting artist and found great delight in giving away paintings to many people. Most of all, her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren all have wonderful memories of the very special relationship she created with each and every one of them.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald, and a sister Marilyn (Tom) Hornberger. She is survived by her three daughters; Debra (Patrick) O'Keefe, Susan (Thom) McClinton and Diana (Edward) Schneider. Also surviving are grandchildren Travis (Christie) Hanson, Mary (Arlie) O'Keefe-Lewter, James (Mandi) O'Keefe, Breah (Jon-Michael) Morrison, Brian (Lindsey) Cole, and five great-grandchildren. She is survived by sisters Gloria (Jack) Webber and Dianne (Jim) Lewis.
Respecting her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family memorial will take place as she joins her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In honor and remembrance of Margaret's loving and generous spirit, the family asks that you demonstrate an act of kindness to someone in lieu of flowers or donations.
