Margo Louise Zaneis (born June 6th, 1943) passed away quietly at her home in Battle Creek, Michigan on Tuesday, March 14th. Born as Margo Halsey in Battle Creek she would go on to graduate from Stevens College in Missouri. This began what would prove to be a lifetime of service to her family and community. Margo taught second grade for a number of years, where she enjoyed the art of both educating and nurturing her young students. Shortly after marrying Dean Zaneis, they would welcome their own children. Chad Zaneis was born in Watertown, Minnesota in 1971 and after they relocated to Kalamazoo, Michigan, Michael Zaneis was born in 1973.
The Zaneis household was a warm and vibrant place, with “Ma Z” freely welcoming family, friends, and neighbors. She gave selflessly to her growing community, whether someone needed a home cooked meal, a bed to sleep in, or just a loving word of encouragement. Margo would eventually move back to Battle Creek to care for her aging Mother and other family members. She never lost her core purpose of caring for others.
The family will hold a memorial to celebrate Margo’s life at Farley Funeral Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care (105 Capital Ave. NE, Battle Creek, MI) on Saturday, March 18th from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm.
She is survived bv her two sons, her sister Marcia, brother Bill and grand-daughters Ava & Jillian.
