Maria Ernestina "Tina" Rose, 104, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed on Sun, Nov. 10, 2019. She was born April 7, 1915 in the Republic of Panama to Pablo E. and Petronila (Villareal) Rangel. She was raised in Panama and earned her Master's Degree in Law from the University of Panama. Tina earned a Bachelor's Degree (1938) in Law and Social Sciences and another in Criminology: Dactyloscopy (Fingerprint science) and Applied Science. She started a business school in Panama while working in a law firm and managed the accounting for several businesses.
Maria Ernestina "Tina" Rangel was united in marriage to Paul H. Rose in 1944 in Panama City, Republic of Panama. Tina was preceded in death by her husband, Paul on November 26, 2004. They began their family in Battle Creek, Michigan. Surviving are her children; Paul H. Rose Jr., Tanya M. Giguere (Paul), LeVern "Vern" T. Rose, Charles E. Rose (Michelle Frank), Xenia R. Schafer (Herbert), 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She has one remaining sister, Rachel de La Guardia and a cousin, Coralia Quiros, along with more than 60 family members that reside in Panama.
Tina was a devout, long-time member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Battle Creek, MI. Her hobbies included poetry, sewing and crafts. She was deeply involved in community service: Cub Scout Den Mother, Camp Fire Girl Leader, Auxiliary of DAV and American Legion, United Nations Association, Kalamazoo Diocese Advisory Council for Latin Americans, WMU Science for Citizens, Urban League Board of Directors, Latino Representative for the NAACP, Neighborhood Planning Council Advisory Board, and Asociación Hispano Americano / Spanish American Association. Tina will be remembered for her lovingness, energy, humor, good advice, delicious food and interesting, hand-written letters to family as well as her clothing drives for migrants, and Papal recognition for founding the Spanish Rosary Group that is nearly 60 years old.
Friends will be received from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16th and Sunday, November 17th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where the Rosary will be recited in Spanish at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John D. Fleckenstein at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Philip CC for Tuition Grants and Scholarships.
