Marie "Scotty" Gommer

Marie "Scotty" Gommer passed away on April 25, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born on October 3, 1926 to Jennie (Critelli) and Dominick Scozzafava of Haverstraw, NY.

Marie attended St. Peter's School and graduated from Haverstraw High School in 1944. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Peter's Parish and a member of the "Catholic Daughters of the Americas". She was a member of St. Gregory's Seniors and did volunteer work at the Marian Shrine. Marie was a long-time volunteer at the Haverstraw Brick Museum, serving on the Board of Trustees. When her daughters left home, Marie also found time to work and help out at the local ambulance service in her neighborhood.

Marie married George "Bud" Gommer at a nuptial mass in St. Peter's church on April 19, 1952. He pre-deceased her in 1995. She is also pre-deceased by sister Phyllis Sebastian in 2010, and brother Joseph Scozzafava in 2014. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Carattini and husband Darryl of Carlisle, PA, grandchildren Amy Carattini and husband John Maniha of Frederick, MD; Andy Carattini and wife Nicole and great grandchildren Sophia and Chase of Dunnellon, FL. Also surviving are daughter Susan Carattini and husband Dwight and grandchildren Patrick and Christopher of Battle Creek, MI. She is additionally survived by many nieces, nephews, as well as grand nieces, and grand nephews. She was a beloved member of the whole family.

Funeral Services will be Friday, May 5, beginning with a Family Visitation from 8:30-9:30 a.m., at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Haverstraw. The funeral mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, followed by a graveside service at St. Peter's Cemetery. Following Services, a luncheon will be held at the Gilmor Sloane House at the Stony Point Center.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be donated to the "Marie J. 'Scotty' Gommer Memorial Fund" through the Battle Creek Community Foundation (BCCF), (269) 962-2181, http://www.bccfoundation.org/giving/Gommer-Memorial to be directed to support Marie's non-profit charitable interests.
