Marilyn McKune

Marilyn (Shoecraft) (Krum) McKune of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

Born May 31, 1945, in Shelby, Michigan, and raised in Fremont, Marilyn was the daughter of Ross and Virginia (Pietsch) Shoecraft. A 1963 graduate of Fremont High School, she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1967 and later a master’s degree from Western Michigan University in 1975.

Marilyn began her teaching career in the Detroit area before joining W.K. Kellogg Junior High in Battle Creek, where she taught history and English for many years. After retiring from teaching, she continued her strong work ethic at State Farm Insurance Company in Portage, Michigan.

A lifelong learner and history enthusiast, Marilyn especially loved exploring museums and studying the Civil War. She enjoyed reading, traveling, quilting, and spending time with her beloved cats. She celebrated her 80th birthday with family on a cruise.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, David McKune; her first husband, Stephen Krum; her daughter, Kellie Krum (Steve) Pijaszek; stepchildren, Andrea (Chad) Wolever and Samantha Sager; grandchildren, Rachel Pijaszek, Ryan Pijaszek, Jessica (Quintin) Way, Devin (Tori) Wolever, Mackenna Sager, and Hunter Sager; her brother, Tom Shoecraft; and her sister, Paula Shoecraft.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 105 Capital Ave. NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017 on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A second memorial gathering will be held in Fremont, Michigan at Stone Lodge, 4465 W. 48th St. Freemont, MI 49412 , on Sunday, December 7, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
