Marilyn June Sherrick, age 93, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023 in McKinney, Texas.

Marilyn was born in Marshall, MI on June 7, 1929 to Alice and Bernice (Bud) Pio. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High in 1947 and shortly thereafter, married Robert G. Race. In 1957, Bob and Marilyn along with four children, moved to Irving, Texas where they lived until Marilyn returned to Battle Creek in 1972. She married Nyle V. Sherrick in 1987. He preceded her in death April 7, 1997. Also preceding her in death were her mother and stepfather, Alice and Mike Tomak; stepmother and father, Ruth and Bud Pio; brother, Bud Pio; son, Robert E. Race and ex-husband, Robert G. Race.

Marilyn was a member of Central Christian Church in Battle Creek. She was employed by and retired from State Farm Insurance after 18 years. She worked for both Agents Dave Tulls and Jerry Ulrich.

Marilyn was devoted to her friends and family, along with her beloved Golden Retriever, Ginger. As a life-long fan of the Detroit Tigers, she also enjoyed reading, yardwork, knitting, needlepoint, sewing and Big Band music.

Marilyn is survived by a daughter, Joan (Warren) Bowlby of Allen, TX; two sons, James Race of Princeton, TX and David (Deb) Race of Quincy, IL; a step-sister, Janet (David) Cornell of Richland, MI; and three step-daughters, Nancy Schrimer and Linda (Ken) Thompson of East Leroy, MI and Nyleen (Charles) Barrows of Morrison, CO; 6 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 9 nephews and nieces.
