March 24, 1970 — July 8, 2017

Mark Edward Petersen, 47, of Osprey, Florida and formerly of Battle Creek, died Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mark was born March 24,1970 in Battle Creek to Edward T. and Karen M. (Voigt) Petersen. Mark was a 1988 graduate of Pennfield High School and continued his education at Kellogg Community College. Mark moved to Florida in 1995 and has resided in there for the past 22 years. He was employed for the past ten years by Best Western Hotels in Sarasota, Florida, currently as the general manager.

Surviving are his parents, Edward T. Petersen of Battle Creek, Karen M. (Bob) Petersen-Allen of Battle Creek; brother, Eric (Jill) Petersen of Battle Creek - their 2 sons; Grant & Ryne, brother, Ken (Michelle) Petersen of Battle Creek and their 2 daughters, Karlee (Trey) Junkins and Kelly (Nick) Flory. Mark also leaves behind a family of friends who meant the world to him. Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents and two uncles.

Mark enjoyed living near the ocean & appreciated the beautiful sunsets on the Gulf. He enjoyed a good book, dabbled in photography and was an avid concert goer. In particular, he loved to go to large arena shows to see his icons live. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle and friend.

Mark was a true Floridian - but his favorite time to visit his family in Michigan was during the fall. He loved seeing the leaves change color. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his wonderful sense of humor, his sarcastic wit and a smile that would light up a room. Mark was truly loved by many and will remain forever in our hearts.

Remember to take a walk on the beach, watch a sunset with your loved ones and make a toast to enduring friendships lifelong and beyond. That is what Mark would wish for all of us.

Mark's family in Michigan will have a private gathering to remember him and celebrate his life. Mark's family in Florida will host a Celebration of Life in his honor.
