Marlene Fay Curtis, 84, of Battle Creek, died peacefully July 13, 2018 with her family by her side. Marlene was born September 22, 1933 in St. Ignace to Levi and Berniece (Mason) Furlott.
Marlene graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence Curtis, in 1950 and was a devoted wife and mother. She was inventive, creative, and enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts. She took pride in being neat and organized and had a very quick wit. In recent years, Marlene was a volunteer at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. She belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for many years and enjoyed the dear friendships she had with her sorority sisters.
Marlene is survived by her two sons, Mark (Margaret) Curtis of Big Rapids and Kent (Sandie) Curtis of Kalamazoo; her grandchildren, Aaron Curtis, Leah Lytle, Deanna Curtis and Kendra (Jason) DeYoung; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Justine Lytle, Lauren, Anna and Charlotte DeYoung; a brother, Lawrence Furlott; a sister, Connie (Furlott) Mayer and a cousin, Jewelle Jacobs, who was like a sister to her.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 2015; a sister, Rita (Furlott) Pemble and two brothers, Matthew Furlott and George Furlott.
Funeral services to celebrate Marlene's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, officiated by Rev. Kelly Hadlich.
