Martha J. Corkins, 87, of Battle Creek, died April 9, 2017. Martha was born September 10, 1929 in Brazil, IN to Charles and Hannah (Atkinson) Wallace. Martha graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1946 and married William Robert Corkins on January 12, 1952. She worked as a healthcare aide in homes and worked part time as a receptionist at Royal Funeral Home. She was a dedicated and loving mother, spending the majority of her life raising her five children.
Martha was a member of the First Wesleyan Church and volunteered there in various roles. She was also a member at the Pleasantview Family Bible Church and the OES of Bedford Lodge. Martha was very active in 4-H, was a Den Mother and worked on the playground at Pleasantview Elementary School.
Martha is survived by her children; Bill (Chris) Corkins of Georgetown, KY, Jackie (Randy) Foster of Concord, N.C., Connie (John) Reed of Battle Creek, Tom (Liz) Corkins of Coopersville, MI and Jeannette (Ken) Burkhead of Battle Creek; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband William Robert Corkins in 1989 and a brother, Jack Wallace.
Funeral services to celebrate Martha's life will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, officiated by Rev. Chuck Winter. Visitation will be Monday, April 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may donate to a charity of choice.
