Mary Jane “Jane” (Tannert) Haefner, 89, of Battle Creek, Michigan died at Rose Arbor Place in Kalamazoo, on Friday, July 17, 2026.

Jane was born November 18, 1936, in Bronx, NY, the daughter of Walter and Mary Ella (McClain) Tannert. She grew up in the Bronx and graduated from St. Helena Catholic High School for Girls in 1954. Jane met Al, the love of her life, when they were 16 years old. Mary Jane Tannert and Albert Henry Haefner were united in marriage on December 26, 1956, at St. Helena Roman Catholic Church in the Bronx.

Sadly, Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Al on January 27, 2025. Surviving are their daughter, Jane Haefner of Battle Creek; daughter-in-law, Denise Haefner of Ballwin, MO; seven granddaughters, Elizabeth (Bill) Perry, Sarah Grimm, Carley (Nate) Kares, Lisa Dettl, Katie (James) Rollins, Amy (Nick) Hartig, Ashley (Ryan) Crews; eleven great-grandchildren, Ashley (Jon) Hess, Alyssa Corey, Lilly Kares, Fiona Grimm, Ainsley Grimm, Joel Kares, Damian Rollins, Adelaide Rollins, Phoebe Crews, soon-to-be-born Baby Rollins and Baby Crews; and several nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her husband, Jane was also preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ella Tannert; her father and stepmother, Walter and Edith Tannert, a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Robert Roach; and her son, Albert D. Haefner who died July 15, 2026.

Jane was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a member of the CCW and worked in the parish office. She was a member of P.E.O. and the former Riverside Country Club. She enjoyed golfing, playing Bingo and playing cards. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing. She loved watching her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. Jane will be remembered for her great love of family and friends.

Friends will be received 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2026, at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Christopher Ankley at St. Joseph Catholic Church 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Committal and inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
