Mary R. Hammond

Mary Rose Hammond, 90, of Battle Creek, died December 13, 2015 at The Oaks. Mary was born August 31, 1925 in Battle Creek to Frank and Barbara (Margenten) Obraz. She attended St. Philip School through 10th grade but graduated from Bellevue High School later in life. Mary worked for 26 years in the quality control department at the Kellogg Company.

On September 1, 1945 she married Murl E. Hammond in Long Beach, California. He sadly preceded her in death in 2009. Mary is survived by her son, Dr. David (Lorraine) Hammond and her daughter, Rosemary (Don) Nay; four grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Hammond, Sarah (Ryan) Edwards, Andrew (Wendy) Hahn and Nathan Hahn and four great-grandchildren, Ella and Gwen Hammond, Claire and Reese Edwards. Along with her husband, Mary was also preceded in death by her parents and step-father, Nichola Twean.

Mary enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren, doing search word puzzles, traveling and reading. She was a lifetime member of the Leila Battle Creek Health Systems Auxiliary, the Kellogg 25 Year Club, AARP and is a member of Pennfield Presbyterian Church.

Funeral Services to celebrate Mary's life will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Pennfield Presbyterian Church or the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
