Mary Kay (Roush) Hayes, 74 of Battle Creek, MI and Chattanooga, TN died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, May 31, 2014.
She was born June 13, 1939, in Creal Springs, IL to Jay and Christina (Anderson) Roush. Mary Kay grew up in Mahomet, IL, graduated from Mahomet-Seymour High School and attended Southern Illinois University.
Mary Kay Roush was united in marriage to Richard William Hayes on December 27, 1959 at the Methodist Church in Mahomet, IL. Surviving are Dick, her husband of 54+ years; son, Tim Hayes of Chattanooga, TN; six grandchildren, Ashley, Katey, Jordan, Anderson, Makenzie and Devan Hayes; a great-grandson, Daniel Hayes; and two brothers, Jack (Charlene) Roush of Farmers City, IL and John (Nancy) Roush of Olathe, KS. Mary Kay was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Evan Hayes in 1999, and by her parents.
Mary Kay and Dick lived in 21 houses and numerous states during their marriage. She managed several plumbing showrooms in Sacramento, CA and Portland, OR. She remodeled homes, rental properties and was a qualified plumber, electrician, carpenter and mechanic. Mary Kay helped her sons replace engines and BAHA VWs. She was an avid baseball fan and especially enjoyed following her sons', grandchildren's and great-grandchild's activities and sporting events. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, and will be remembered as a loving, non-judgmental wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandma, sister, friend and neighbor.
Friends will be received 3:00-5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Committal & interment will be held at a later date at Hamilton Gardens in Hixson, TN.
