Mary Norris Koerner

February 16, 1924 — November 23, 2021

Mary Norris Koerner, age 97, of Battle Creek died Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Pineview Assisted Living. She was born in Battle Creek on February 16, 1924, the daughter of John and Agnes (Scott) Dale and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. Mary worked at the Clark Equipment Company as a secretary in Purchasing, her first real job, and retired from the administrative offices of the Kellogg Company in 1986 after more than 28 years.

Mary was united in marriage to Herbert Alfred Koerner on March 8, 1944 at the First Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek; he preceded her in death on November 1, 2009. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne (Dan) Lutz of Grand Rapids, son, John (Cindy) Koerner of Battle Creek, four granddaughters, Amy (Gregg) Hesterman, Sara Crandall, Angela (Jay) Hunn, Allison (Brent) Cloward, three step-grandchildren, Katie Lutz, Chuck (Lorraine) Lutz, Beth (Kevin) Read, nine great-grandchildren, ten step great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Martha I. Hardenburg.

Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 70 years and it's Sew-N-Sews, Miriam Circle, and Presbyterian Women's coordinating team. She was also a member of the Kellogg 25-Year Club, and the Bronson Hospital Auxiliary. Mary had a cheerful smile and personality that was a gift to all those that knew her. She enjoyed reading, Tiger's baseball and college basketball, traveling, spending time with family in her role as loving mother, grandmother, great-grandma and great-great grandma. A family members birthday party always had top priority over any other activity. Many memories were made at the cottage Mary and Herb shared with her sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Walter, at Wall Lake for over 40 years.

The family would like to thank the staff of NorthPointe Woods Pineview Assisted Living for the care and compassion they have shown our mother over the past 4+ years. A value cannot be placed on the peace of mind we experienced knowing that mom was being looked after in a comfortable and caring facility. A special thanks goes out to Erika, Melissa and Yvonne, when a little extra help was greatly appreciated.

Mary's family will receive family and friends 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Monday, November 29, 2021 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, with Rev.
