Mary Louise (McFadden) Marsh, of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully on August 31, 2021, at Reflections Memory Care, after a long illness.
Mary Lou was born July 8, 1924 in Edinburgh, Indiana to William Randolph and Lenora Corine (Gray) McFadden. Mary Lou grew up in Edinburgh and was a 1942 graduate of Edinburgh High School. During WWII she worked the midnight shift in a plastic factory, making parts for the U.S. Navy. Also during WWII, Mary Lou was president of the U.S.O. at Camp Atterbury, where she first met Robert, her husband to be. She was also employed at another plastic factory in Edinburgh and as an Aide at Franklin Schools in Battle Creek, MI. Her last job was running payroll at Monrovia Public Schools in Monrovia, CA.
Mary Lou McFadden was united in marriage to Robert H. Marsh December 9, 1945 in Edinburgh. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Bob on October 14, 2001, while on duty and serving as Captain of Cal-Nev-Ari Volunteer Fire Department, NV. Surviving are their children, Richard (Betty) Marsh of Springfield, OH, Virginia (Mike) Kent of Battle Creek, MI, Beverly (Mike) Kelley of Battle Creek, MI, Corine (Phil) Serjeant of Forks, Washington, Randy (Lori) Marsh of Monrovia, CA; 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. In addition to her husband, Mary Lou was preceded in death by a son, James Marsh; and two brothers, Howard and Bobby McFadden.
Mary Lou was the editor of the newsletter for her husband's 106th Infantry Reunions that they attended every year. She enjoyed the Casino and playing the Penny Slots. She loved being with family, having fun, playing "Pig" and "Clue" and just laughing, teasing and making noise together. Mary Lou will be remembered for her quick wit.
A service for both Mary Lou and Bob will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Fort Custer Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Following honors, Fr. Christopher Ankley will celebrate a service for both Bob and Mary Lou. Inurnment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Reflections Memory Care for allowing Mary Lou to live her final years with laughter and dignity. They would also like to thank Elara Caring Hospice for the support and care they gave Mary Lou and family.
