Mary T. Maddix, 89, of Battle Creek, died at home Saturday, March 8, 2014. Mary was born June 27, 1924 in Haverhill, MA to Francis and Mary (Kiely) Cronin. She graduated from Haverhill High School and married Bartlett Maddix on January 16, 1954. Later that year, the couple would move to Battle Creek and Mary would start her career working for the Secretary of State, completing 22 years of dedicated service and retiring in 1985. She also worked for the Battle Creek Police Department for 7 years.
Mary enjoyed reading, writing and playing bingo, card games and puzzles. Her two favorite tv shows were the Price is Right and the Lawrence Welk Show. But most of all, Mary loved spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Eileen Worthington and Maura Iler, both of Battle Creek; her two sons, Dan Maddix and John B. Maddix, both of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren, P.F.C. Adam Iler, Bryan (Lindsay) Iler, Travis (Amber) Worthington, Alex Worthington, Matt Maddix, Michael Maddix and Jennifer Luce; five great-grandchildren, and her two sisters, Eileen Breglia and Lillian Lupi, and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bartlett, her parents, and two brothers, Rev. Fr. Daniel Cronin and Francis Cronin.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. A graveside service to celebrate Mary's life will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 14 in the chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery, officiated by Deacon Al Patrick.
