Mary Catherine Maher

Mary Catherine Maher, 86, of Battle Creek, died peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2015. She was born in Battle Creek on December 6, 1928, the daughter of Owen J. and Mary M (Driscoll) Kelly. Her families were long-time residents of the Battle Creek area and Mary Cath was a 1947 graduate of St. Philips Catholic High School.
Mary C. Kelly was united in marriage at St. Philip Catholic Church on November 7, 1953 to Richard W. Maher, who survives her. She worked at Consumers Energy (Powers) retiring in 1962.
Also surviving are her children; Owen R. Maher of Farmington Hills, Patrice M. Gausselin and Kevin P. Maher both of Battle Creek; son-in-law, Gerard P. Gausselin ; grandchildren, McKenzie, Owen Jr., Ryley, Brendan, Conor and a niece, Mary C. Tierney. She was preceded by her parents and a sister Margaret Patrice Whelan.
Mary loved spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church and Council of Catholic Women. Her hobbies included knitting, baking, tending to her flower garden, and teaching her children to grow vegetables.
Friends may call after 6:00 pm Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6-8pm with a Parish Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 112 Capital Ave., Battle Creek, MI, with Father Francis A. Marotti, Celebrant. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends, who wish, may make memorial contributions to Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools, 63 North 24th St. Battle Creek, MI, 49015.
