Mary Patricia "Pat" Gioia

September 1, 1933 — January 22, 2017

Mary Patricia "Pat" Gioia
Augusta, Michigan

Mary "Pat" passed away peacefully, at home, on January 22, 2017. She can now join her beloved husband Anthony "Tony", who preceded her. Pat was a beautiful and generous woman who was blessed with a great sense of humor and a sharp mind. She was the person you called when you needed legal counsel, her advice was on point and her wisdom appreciated by family and friends. She was born September 1, 1933 and was raised in Flint, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her parents, Flora and Francis Rogers; siblings, Bill Rogers and June Czubaseski; brother-in-law, Chester Czubaseski; her nephew, Keith Rogers; and daughter, Roberta Jones.

Always a successful woman, she had 7 accomplished children, worked as an engineer/draftsman for a number of years, and then went back to school. She received her Juris Doctor from Toledo University and started a law practice in Galesburg, Michigan. She married her second husband, Tony Gioia and they spent the last 20 years in Augusta. In her younger days she was a pilot and loved riding horses. She enjoyed dining out, gardening, playing bridge and entertaining family and friends. She enjoyed her life and her husband Tony, who was always her rock. She missed her beloved husband and spoke to him each morning after his death last year. Tony and Pat are together now, and will always be remembered by family and friends.

She will be missed by her sister, Connie McDonough, and sister in-law, Anna Rogers; her first husband, Walter Turner; daughters, Constance, Anne, Nancy and Jane Turner; sons, Nicholas and Stephen Turner; stepson, Mickey Gioia; son-in-law, Bill Jones and stepson-in-law, Dan Longmire; her grandchildren, Jessica Lancaster, Noah and Deane Begay, Robert, Mason, Samuel, Jacquelyn and Teresa Turner, and Nicholas Gould; and great-grandchildren, Daemian and Natasha Turner. Pat loved life and was a positive person whose kindness and generosity will be missed.

We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Pat during her 83 years, among them: home is your castle, neighbors are family, family is who you love, and there is always room for more good friends. She was a part of the local community and was an active member of clubs among them the Beacon Club where she enjoyed the status of becoming one of the first female members.

The family wishes to thank Reverence Home Health & Hospice for their professionalism and help during this time. We'd like to express our gratitude to her caregivers from Stay Home Companions. They provided tender care and companionship in the years before her final days. Special thanks to those caregivers that became trusted friends, and are now considered family. We would also like to thank Pride Care Ambulance, the Augusta Fire Department, and Bronson Hospital for the dignity and respect they showed while responding and caring for Pat in her times of need.

The family will receive friends 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel where a memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory may be made to one of the following:
Michigan Paralyzed Veterans: http://www.michiganpva.org/ or the Catholic Charities Diocese of Kalamazoo: http://caringnetworkmi.org/. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
