Mary J. (Messinger) Pitts

Mary J. (Messinger) Pitts, 93, died at her home on May 8, 2014. Mary was born in Three Rivers, MI in 1921, the daughter of Floyd and Erie (Searle) Messinger. She graduated in 1939 from Three Rivers High School, working for the Telephone Company and Fairbanks Morris before moving to Battle Creek in 1951. Mary J. Messinger was united in marriage to Robert L. Pitts in 1949 and moved to Battle Creek shortly after. Bob preceded her in death in 1978. Mary was a homemaker for many years until returning to work at the Battle Creek Y-Center in the 70's. She was a fixture at the locker desk, pool, tennis court, gym, etc.; both working and working out, for many years. In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jacqueline "Jackie" K. Pitts; brother, Floyd (Bus) Messinger. She is survived by her son Thomas R. Pitts of Minnesota. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, May 12, 2014, Farley Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Visitation begins one hour prior, at Noon, with the service at 1 PM.
