Mary Riker

Mary Riker, 90, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away on November 1, 2026 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI.

Mary was born to Wilber and Grace Helen Despins on September 5, 1936 in Battle Creek, MI. She attended Battle Creek Central High School. She went on to become a waitress at Howard Johnson’s Restaurant, a job in which she thoroughly enjoyed. Then, she found work at Post Cereal Co. shortly before leaving the workforce to step into her role as a full-time mom.

Mary was a loving individual who centered her life around her beloved family, doing everything she could to support her children. In her own time, Mary was particularly fond of bowling. She participated in bowling competitions locally, statewide, and nationally. A proud moment of hers was when she bowled a perfect 300 game (12 strikes in a row). Mary was a huge Tigers and Wolverines fan who also loved to snowmobile and take trips up north with her family.

Mary is survived by her two sons, Steve (Michele) Riker of Battle Creek, MI and Richard (Jennifer) Riker of Mary Esther, FL; grandchildren Amari Riker, Sebastian Riker, and soon to be born Lauren Riker. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather; Ernest Leroy McDuffee, brother; Chuck Despins, and her sister, Sue Stigner.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 6th, 2026 at 1:30 PM at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care in Battle Creek, MI. Friends are invited to join Mary's family for a brief visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery at 3:00 PM following the service.
