Mary Margaret (McGrath) Thomas

Mary Margaret (McGrath) Thomas, 74, of Battle Creek went home to be with our Lord surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 11, 2024. 

Mary was born June 15, 1950 in Battle Creek to Vincent and Kathleen (Gordier) McGrath and graduated from St. Philip Catholic High School. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her amazing roses. She is well known for baking the McGrath’s famous chocolate chip cookies for her family and Christmas is never official until you had her amazing homemade Peanut Brittle. She loved crocheting and she always crocheted baby blankets for all her grandchildren. She would always find the most interesting and beautiful things to make for her family and friends. Her most favorite place was the McGrath family’s cottage built by her family. This is where she adored watching sunrises over the lake and watching her family spend precious time together years after years. She loved her family dearly and she made sure to keep sacred family traditions living on.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Thomas; children, Sarah (Tom) Wood, Stacy (Johnny) Wood, Brian (Tiffany) McDonald; grandchildren, Emily, Ben, Kayla, Alyssa and Anahlea; great-grandchild, Emersyn; stepsons, Greg (Gwen) Thomas, Jason Thomas and their children; brothers, John McGrath and Tom McGrath; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Linda and Rose Marie.

Mary’s family will receive family and friends for visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where a memorial service to celebrate her life will take place at 3:00 p.m. Personal messages for Mary’s family may be shared at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
