Maurine Bain, 84, formerly of Battle Creek, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Waltonwood Assisted Living of Royal Oak, MI after courageously fighting failing health for many years. Her spunk, bright eyes, beautiful smile, and devotion to her loved ones were with her to the end.

Maurine Mae Neau was born on December 27, 1930 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Raymond and Sophia (Langer) Neau. She grew up in Kenosha with her older sister Colleen, attending Mary D. Bradford High School and St. Catherine's High School. Prior to her marriage, Maurine was employed at MacWhyte Wire Rope, Simmons Mattress Company, and Great Lakes Naval Training Station.

Maurine married Robert J. Bain on June 25, 1955 in Kenosha. In 1968, Robert and Maurine moved to Battle Creek where she lived until 1998. Maurine was preceded in death by Robert, her husband of 36 years, on January 29, 1992. Surviving are her four children, Karen (Steven) Hammond of Kalamazoo, MI, Sharon Hunn of Wexford, PA, Maurine (James) Dougherty of Farmington Hills, MI, and Patrick (Diana) Bain of Royal Oak, MI; ten grandchildren, Andrea (Marcus) Ellis, Lesley (Brian) Clinard, Lindsay Dougherty, Richard Dougherty, Ryan Hunn, Ashley Bain, Robert James Bain II, Alexander Bain, Matthew Bain, and Rachel Bain; three great-grandchildren, Alexandria Hammond, Brendan Clinard, and Xavier Clinard; brother-in-law Jerry (Patricia) Bain of Kenosha, WI; and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, sister Colleen Neau, and many aunts and uncles.

While living in Battle Creek, Maurine was an active member of St. Philip Catholic Church, the Elks Club, and the Fraternal Order of Police. She was also involved in the community with Leila Follies, serving as chairwoman of multiple committees, St. Philip Women's Service Organization in various capacities, including president, as a bingo captain for St. Philip's with her husband, and as a volunteer for Lakeview schools. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, playing cards and games, trips to the casino to play the slot machines, socializing with friends and neighbors, and hosting garage sales. Maurine was a "Cheesehead" – an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers. Among many other things, Maurine will be remembered for her strong faith, huge and generous heart, her unconditional love, sense of humor, and one-of-a-kind personality.
