Maxine M. Jiran

March 14, 1925 — August 28, 2016

Maxine M. Jiran, 91, of Battle Creek, died Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Fountain View Assisted Living. Maxine was born March 14, 1925 in Detroit, the daughter of Earl and Justine (Gould) Armour. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1943 and married Richard Jiran the following year. A dedicated homemaker, Maxine spent the majority of her adult years raising their five children.

Maxine enjoyed doing puzzles and playing skip-bo, but most of all, loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Battle Creek.

Maxine is survived by her three daughters, Linda Caly of Schaumburg, IL, Barbara Hazelwood of Omro, WI and Robin (Tim) Delain of Fletcher, NC; one son, Eric (Pam) Jiran of Portage; five grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and a sister, Marian Hoffman.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Richard Jiran; a son, Barry Jiran; two brothers, Roland and Gordon Armour; two sisters, Mildred Pierce and Margaret Jodon; two granddaughters, Hope Smith and Angela Jiran and a grandson, Barry "BJ" Jiran II.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Funeral services to celebrate Maxine's life will be 2:30 p.m., Thursday, September 1 at Fort Custer National Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Dave Mason. Memorial donations may be made to Loaves and Fishes, 901 Portage Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
