Melissa Jean "Missey" Ackerman

December 8, 1953 — February 15, 2021

Melissa Jean "Missey" Ackerman, age 67, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 15, 2021 at Hope Hill Elder Care Home of Battle Creek. She was born December 8, 1953 in Charleston, West Virginia the daughter of Robert L. and Ruth E. (Darnell) Cain. Missey graduated from Choctawhatchee High School of Fort Walton Beach, Florida in 1971. She met William C. "Bill" Ackerman, the "Love of Her Life", in January of 1981. She and Bill were married August 4, 1989. Missey retired from the Social Security Administration after her career of 25 years.

Missey loved her dogs and cats, gardening, reading, being outdoors, road trips, music, creative decorating, and especially spending time with friends and family.

Missey is survived by her husband, stepdaughter Jennifer Gunter (Jerry) and stepson Michael Ackerman (Norma) and grandchildren Eric, Jordan, Bethany, and Adam. She is also survived by brother William O. Cain (Lori) and sister Cynthia L. Hendrix (David). She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Robert L. Cain, Jr.

A private funeral service was held at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel on February 20, 2021.
