Meneta Jean (Croope) "Men" West

Meneta J. (Croope) West, 91, of Battle Creek died peacefully, with her family at her side, at Maplewood of Marshall on Monday, August 28, 2017.

She was born October 18, 1925 in Williamston, Michigan to Gerald W. and Julia A. (Austin) Croope. Men grew up in Lansing, graduated from Lansing Eastern and attended Michigan State University. Early in her marriage she was a TV weather reporter for a local Lansing station and after her children were out of school, Men worked as a Kelly Girl.

Meneta Jean Croope was united in marriage to Ernest Richard West on November 27, 1946 in Lansing, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 9, 2001. Surviving are their three children, Terry West Pratt (Robert) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Tracy West of Marshall, and Brent R. West (Myra Calkins) of Bellevue; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews including special niece, Pegge Huntley. Men was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mereta Proos.

Meneta and Dick lived in St. Petersburg, Florida for 10 years, where she enjoyed fishing and having fun in the sun. In Michigan, she and Dick were members of Bedford Valley Country Club and Battle Creek Country Club. Men was an avid shopper and enjoyed going to dinner with her friends. She and Dick were longtime Michigan State supporters and held season tickets. Men enjoyed her travels with Dick in their retirement years and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon Thursday, August 31, 2017 with a memorial service immediately following.
