Michael John Dyas, Sr., 76, of Battle Creek, died at home on February 8, 2022, surrounded by his family. Michael was born May 10, 1945 in Ohio to John and Georgianna (Morse) Dyas, moving to Battle Creek as a young child. Michael worked at Clark Equipment for over 20 years, before retiring in 1986.
Michael was a man of great faith and attended church regularly. He enjoyed 50's and 60's music, bowling, playing pool, and he and Ann enjoyed cooking, spent their summers traveling along the lakeshore, attending art fairs, food festivals, and classic car shows. His favorite activity, however, was spending time with his grandchildren. After retirement, he volunteered at local nursing homes and hospitals, and was always available to help a person in need. He had a special dog, Brooks, whom he was especially fond of.
Michael is survived by his two daughters, Michelle Cole and Kim (Gary) Schwab; grandchildren, Malcolm (Candi) Cole, II â Malcolm III; Jason (Jamie) Cole â Xavier, Jaylynn; Curtis (Rachel) Day â Logan, Grayson; Melissa Dyas â Brooklyn, Brayden; and Daniel (Brittney) Hill â Jaylen; and two sisters, Linda (Stan) Lawrence and Diane (Dan) Burghdoff. He previously had a great aide, Candee Russell, who became a great friend to the family.
Michael married June Olson in 1965, which ended in divorce. He then married Martha Ann (Militzer) Day in 1979, who preceded him in death in 2010. Michael was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angela Brooks; a son, Michael Dyas, Jr. and an infant sister, Marie Diane.
A memorial service to celebrate Michael's life will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
