Michael Wayne Heshelman

January 19, 1949 — November 24, 2021

Michael Wayne Heshelman, age 72, of Battle Creek went to be with his Lord on Wednesday evening, November 24, 2021 in the Cardiac Unit at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo. Michael was born in Battle Creek on January 19, 1949, the son of Robert and Eva (Wilkey) Heshelman.

Michael graduated from Gull Lake High School as Senior Class President, the Class of 1967, a member of the National Honor Society and the quarterback of the football team. He then went on to play volleyball at Kellogg Community College and Ball State University. Michael faithfully served his country as an MP in the United States Army in South Korea during the Vietnam Era, supporting and transporting injured military. He was always a proud patriot, loved America and talking politics.

Michael was very athletic and a lover of all games, golfing, playing cards & corn hole, old cars, and attended many of his great nephew, Mitch's football games. He passionately traveled throughout his life (Switzerland, Italy & many other places), wintered in Sarasota, Florida, where he had many friends, and also lived in Utah during ski season. Michael loved being a part of the dinner club with his sister, Brenda and friend Nola.

Michael is survived by his sister, Brenda (Heshelman) Moore; his nieces, Nicole (Russ King) Moore and Angie Moore-Brock; his great-niece, Ariana (Nathan) Plank; and his great-nephew, Mitchell Brock. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Donald F. Moore, Jr.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. Funeral services with full military honors will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. The service was recorded and may be viewed at https://vimeo.com/652640837. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Calhoun County Red White & Blue Foundation.
