Michael Scott "Mike" Hoenes, 63, of Battle Creek, Michigan died due to COVID-19 at Bronson Battle Creek on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
Mike was born March 25, 1958 in Marshall, Michigan the son of Robert and Janet (Trine) Hoenes. Mike grew up in Pennfield and was a 1976 graduate of Pennfield High School. He earned an Associate Degree from Kellogg Community College. At the age of eleven, Mike started working on a dairy farm. His career included 35 years as a Dairy Farmer and 20 years at Duncan Aviation. For many years, he was employed at Crandall Farms in Battle Creek and then for Bruinsma Farms in Climax Scotts. Mike was currently employed as a Master Upholsterer for Duncan Aviation.
Michael S. Hoenes was united in marriage to Anne VanHuysen on August 22, 1998. Surviving are his wife Anne; son, Myles Michael Hoenes, who will graduate with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Graphic Design with honors from the University of Michigan in the Spring of 2022; a brother, Greg (Melonie) Hoenes of Battle Creek; stepmother, Chris Hoenes Friend of Eastpointe, MI; sister-in-law, Virginia Hoenes of Battle Creek; his special "Kidney Family", Hope and Ruben Rangel of Battle Creek, who gave Mike five more years of health; and cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hoenes; mother, Janet Trine; his maternal grandfather, Cecil Trine, who was very close to Mike; three brothers, Timothy Hoenes, Doug Trine and David Bedwell.
Mike was an avid University of Michigan football fan. He loved cheering and applauding for his son, Myles, whether it was sports, theater, or whatever activity he was involved in. Mike always worked hard. Even with four hours of Dialysis, three days-a-week, he worked a 40 hour week. He welcomed overtime as he planned for his retirement. Mike will be remembered as "a father who went above and beyond for the love of his son and a man who put family before all."
Mike's family requests all attending, to please wear a mask. Friends will be received 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. A memorial service to celebrate Mike's life will be held at the funeral home 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Interment will be held at a later date.
