Michael D. Wood, 59, died April 22, 2026, at Beacon Kalamazoo following a lengthy illness. Michael was born April 4, 1967, in Marshall to Charles (Dan) and Sandra (Shaver) Wood. When Michael was younger, he participated in 4-H, rodeos, and was active in the Cub Scouts. He graduated from Pennfield High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy.
During his time in the Navy, Michael discovered his passion for photography. After his time in the Navy, Michael graduated from San Diego City College for photography. He furthered his photography passion and was the track photographer at many local speedways in SW Michigan. He was able to combine his love for racing and photography and really enjoyed both at the same time. He also co-owned Rabbid Graphics, which helped market his photography business. Later in his life, Michael went back to school at the University of Phoenix and earned his associate’s degree in marketing. Michael was also highly involved in the Down Syndrome Association. He organized many fundraisers over the years.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Faith Wood; his parents, Charles and Sandra Wood; a sister, Christine (John) Childers; a brother, Greg (Theresa) Wood and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Thursa Wood and Merlin and June Shaver.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at his parents' house at 19961 McAllister Rd, Battle Creek, MI. Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
