Mildred Ann (Youdan) Chadderon of Battle Creek, MI
Mildred, age 87, died Saturday evening, August 31, 2013 at The Oaks of NorthPointe Woods, Battle Creek.
Mildred, the daughter of Frank and Thelma (Houseman) Youdan, was born on January 7, 1926 in Miles City, MT; grew-up in St. Johns', MI area; graduated from Maple Rapids (MI) High School and moved to Battle Creek in 1943. She received her nurses' training at the former Community Hospital of Battle Creek; worked in various medical capacities as a Registered Nurse in the area and received the Nurse of the Year Award. Mildred was a former president of the Battle Creek Chapter Women's Christian Temperance Union as well as being active in the State and National Levels. She was also active with the ACCORD Vacation Bible Schools; worked as a volunteer school nurse in the Battle Creek health clinics; active with the Boy Scouts as a Den Mother and Board Member and received the Silver Fawn award for involvement with the Boy Scouts; assisted the Campfire Girls; a member of the Community Hospital Alumni Association and its historian; active with the Red Cross and its Bloodmobile Drives; worked with the PTA on the local, county and state levels; a Board Member of the March of Dimes and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Battle Creek along with being a Board Member and a Sunday School Teacher.
On March 6, 1949 in Battle Creek, Mildred was united in marriage to Lewis R. Chadderdon. Surviving is her husband of 64 years, Louie; her daughter, Claire V. (David) Pumpfrey of LaVista, NE; two sons, Keith E. (Sherrie) Chadderdon of Castle Rock, CO and Dean R. (Cindy) Chadderdon of Townville, SC; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Lana Chadderdon in 1980.
The Funeral Service to celebrate Mildred's life will be held on Wednesday, September 4th at 1:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek, with the Rev. David L. Morton, Associate Pastor of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens, Battle Creek. Family and friends are invited to continue Mildred's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon at the Trinity United Methodist Church. Friends will be received on Tuesday, September 3rd from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
