Milo Dennis Martens, age 81, of Battle Creek died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, September 25, 2016 at the Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. He was born in Battle Creek on January 21, 1935, the son of Victor J. and Evay T. (Morrison) Martens and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the Class of 1954. Milo faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army. He then worked for many years at the Eaton Corporation in Springfield, the United States Postal Service and the D.N.R. at Eagle Lake.
Milo married Mildred "Midge" Hale in Battle Creek on December 7, 1963; she sadly preceded him in death on July 6, 1979. Milo is survived by his children, Dennis M. (Milene) Martens of Whitehall, Michigan and Audrey E. Martens of Battle Creek; 7 step-children, John (Colleen) Miller of Assyria Twp., David (Sylvia) Miller of Florida, Linda (Dennis) Coss of Florida, Kyle Towery of Battle Creek, Joel (Robin) Towery of Battle Creek, and Greg (Jenna) Towery of Lansing; 3 grandchildren, Olivia Martens, Keith Welcher, Krystal Martens, and 2 great-grandchildren, Sophia Martens and Nevaeh Welcher. Milo was also preceded in death by his parents; a step-son, Daniel Miller; a sister, Marva Treadwell; and 2 brothers, Ronald & Stephen Martens.
Milo was an active member and former Union Representative with the UAW and the Letter Carriers Unions. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.
Funeral services to celebrate Milo's life will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 29, 2016 in the chapel at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Arrangements were made by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
