Nancy Lee (Miller) Kearn, 82, a lifelong Battle Creek resident, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, February 20, 2017.
Nancy was born December 2, 1934 in Battle Creek to Carl August and Edna Mae (Paris) Miller. She was a 1952 graduate of Lakeview High School and attended Western Michigan University. Nancy was employed in all aspects of the former family business, Swonk's Flower Shop. She was also employed at the Flower Barn and Battle Creek Federal Center.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Ryan Kearn, the love of her life, in August of 1992. Nancy was formerly married to Robert W. Simonds who preceded her in death in November 2005. Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen A. (Lee) Wheless of King George , Virginia; two sons, William W. (Julie) Simonds and Charles M. (Susanne Mai) Simonds all of Battle Creek; five grandchildren, Scott S. Wheless, Christopher L. "Dade" (Sarah Voruz) Wheless, Kimberly D. (John Weir) Wheless, Nicholas R. Simonds and Timothy C. Simonds and several cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. Nancy was also preceded in death by a son, Robert H. Simonds; her parents, a sister, Marilyn Simonds and two brothers, Max and Carl Miller.
Nancy was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church. She enjoyed solving word search puzzles and chatting with family and friends on Facebook and by emails. Nancy watched the QVC channel and helped make them successful. She previously enjoyed flower gardening in her yard and knitted afghans and sweaters for her family and friends.
Friends will be received 6:00 â 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Funeral services will be officiated by Fr. Christopher Ankley 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2017, at the funeral home. Committal and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
