Nila H. (Angell) Corteville, age 82, of Marshall and formerly of Battle Creek died Saturday afternoon, June 28, 2014 at Bronson Battle Creek after a short illness. She was born in Kalkaska, Michigan on August 16, 1931 to Milford and Margaret (Soper) Angell, and graduated from Kalkaska High School.
Nila married Joe Corteville, Jr. in 1950; he sadly preceded her in death in 1998 after 48 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Milford D. and Milton Angell; her sisters, Maxine Morris, Irene Tanner, Dora Angell, and Lotus Puffer. Nila is survived by her son, Douglas Corteville of Battle Creek; her daughter, Sandra (William) Cummings of Battle Creek; her grandsons, Matthew Cummings of Chicago and Mark Cummings of Battle Creek; her great-granddaughter, Shiloh Cummings of Chicago; a brother, Percy Angell of Kalkaska; 2 sisters, Eleanor Ehl and Marvel Twigg, both of Kalkaska, and many nieces & nephews.
Nila was a homemaker and had been a child care provider for many years. She enjoyed flower gardening, music, Western movies, reading, bird watching, and square dancing. Nila was an accomplished seamstress and made most of her own square dance attire.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Nila's life will be held 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek.
