Nina Lovisa (Anderssen) Renstrom

May 14, 1921 — April 30, 2016

Nina Lovisa (Andersson) Renstrom, 94, of Battle Creek passed away at The Reflections on Saturday, April 30, 2016, with her family at her side.

Nina was born May 14, 1921 in Holmsvattnet, Sweden to Erik and Emma Lovisa Andersson. She grew up in Sweden, where she attended school. She then worked as a caretaker, for an elderly person, preparing meals, baking and doing household work. She met her husband, Birger at a dance where he played the drums in the band. Nina L. Andersson and Birger A. Renstrom were united in marriage on May 22, 1940 in Bureå, Sweden. They came to the United States in 1947 and settled in Superior, Wisconsin for a short time, then moved to Battle Creek for better job opportunities. Nina was employed in the Packing Department at the Kellogg Company from April 1948, until retiring in May of 1982.

Surviving are her son, Stig B. Renstrom and daughter, Christine L. (Ron) Underdahl all of Battle Creek; two grandsons, Steven B. Renstrom of Battle Creek, Scott B. (M'Donna) Renstrom of Palm Beach, FL; two great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; a special nephew, Ron Larson; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Sadly, Nina was preceded in death by her husband, Birger on August 7, 1992; an infant daughter, Marie; two granddaughters, Shannon and Stacey Underdahl; her parents; five brothers and three sisters.

Nina was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and the Kellogg 25 Club. She enjoyed and excelled as a baker and cook. Nina enjoyed tatting, sewing, knitting, crocheting and any hand crafts where she could make useful gifts. She enjoyed traveling with Birger, including several trips Sweden. She and Birger built their home with help from a carpenter friend; and she kept her house, lawn, flower and vegetable gardens meticulous until she was 90. She also enjoyed music, dancing, babies, canning and growing beautiful African Violets. More than anything, Nina loved and cared for her family.

Friends were received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016. Committal and interment followed at Memorial Park Cemetery.
