Norma Jeanne Carl-Baas

Norma Jeanne Carl-Baas, age 91, of Battle Creek passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018. She was born in Battle Creek on December 9, 1926, the daughter of Merle G. and Dorothy E. (McCarty) Carl. Norma was a 1945 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and retired from Consumers Power in 1990 after 45 years of faithful service.

Norma married Orlo John Baas on August 8, 2003; he sadly preceded her in death on December 31, 2009. She is survived by her nephews, Russell (Joni) Carl of Arizona and Chris (Mary Chelle) Carl of Missouri; a niece, Teresa (David Baer) Otis of Arizona; nephew-in-law, Jerry Duckham; a step-son, Michael Baas of Florida; four step-grandchildren; and several grand-nieces & nephews. Norma was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Helen Ulshoefer; her brother, Robert Carl & his wife, Patricia Carl; and her niece, Cheryl Duckham.

Norma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek where she was also a member of the Deborah & Lydia Circles, and formerly served as a Deacon and Stephen's Minister. Norma was a charter member of the Battle Creek Chapter of the American Business Women's Association, and a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Battle Creek Society of Artists, Michigan Grapevine Decorative Artists, and the National Society of Decorative Painters. She also was a former member of the Riverside Country Club, the Michigan Senior Women's Golf Association, and volunteered for many years with the Battle Creek Health System and Bronson Battle Creek Auxiliary. Norma enjoyed painting, playing golf, traveling and spending time with her family and many friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Norma's life will be held 3:30 pm Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care with Rev. Pat J. Weatherwax of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. A visitation is planned for one hour prior to the funeral from 2:30–3:30 at the funeral home.
