Norman Dale "Norm" Hammond of Battle Creek, MI
Norm, age 84, died Friday evening, May 8, 2015 at his residence and following a lengthy illness.
Norm, the son of Lawrence D. and Dorothy M. (Sparks) Hammond, was born in Comstock, MI on February 4, 1931; was a lifetime area resident and a 1949 graduate of Richland (MI) High School. He retired in the early 1990's after 40+ years of faithful service as a Maintenance Supervisor for the Battle Creek School System. Norm enjoyed playing a round of golf; he was an avid fisherman; loved to play cribbage, but his passion in life was spending time with his family and friends.
Norm was preceded in death by his first wife in 1989, the former Dora A. Hall and by a second wife in 1993, the former Judy Priester. Surviving are three daughters, Sanrda K. Falls of Portage, MI, Joanne M. (Jeff Hiemstra) Benny of Paw Paw, MI and Gail A. (Glenora Shelton) Tuinier of Galesburg, MI; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and a step-son, Michael Boone of Hickory Corners, MI Norm was also preceded in death by his parents; his son, William L. Hammond; his daughter, Susan J. Blackport; a step-son, Mark N. Coombs; a sister, Delores A. Welsh and a brother, Robert L. Hammond.
The Graveside Service to celebrate Norm's life will be held on Tuesday, May 26th at 11:00 a.m. in the Cressey Cemetery, Prairieville Township of Barry County, Michigan. Military honors will be bestowed by the Michigan Army National Guard Honor Guard. There will be no visitation. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel (269-629-6022) is in charge of the arrangements.
