Olivia L. (Mrs. Molly) Hicks, 64, died July 17, 2023. She was born on January 2, 1959 in Battle Creek. She married Harry B. Hicks on April 9, 1982. Olivia is the daughter of Donald C. Lacey, Sr. and Clarissa Mae Johnson. She graduated from Battle Creek Central with the class of “78.”
Olivia is survived by her mother Clarissa; brother, Donald C. Lacey, Jr., sister, April Lacey; children, Candice Hicks, Jason Hicks, Chris “Curley” (Annette) Hicks, Rickey (Danielle) Snyder, David (Rosa) Hicks, Joyce Drake and Alice Putman; grandchildren, Blake, Brady and Isabella Snyder, Monica Romea, Jamieon Wyrick and numerous other grandchildren; a special nephew Benny Hicks, a special niece Juanita Norris and a special aunt, Lucile Hicks.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donlad C. Lacey, Sr., Joseph Lacey, Lonnie Lacey and a special daughter-in-law, Joyce L. Hicks-Nunley. Mrs. Molly lived her life to the fullest. She loved fishing, cooking, bowling at M-66 on a league for 10 years with her daughter Candice and brother-in-law Richard Hicks. She also enjoyed shopping and driving her “Mom’s taxi” everywhere; no riders because it was for her and her only!
She enjoyed Candice’s days off so they can go out to eat at Speed’s Restaurant, go to the Share Center, food banks (taking people food who did not have a ride), visiting Cherry Hill Manor and Kellogg Manor. She was proud of her baby boy Chris and Annette for being homeowners in Rolling Hills. She enjoyed her son, David and the time they spent together and taking trips to Indiana to see her son Rickey and family. But most of all, she enjoyed caring for her disabled son, Jason from birth until July 16, 2023.
The Hicks family would like to send a special thanks to the Battle Creek Housing Commission for the 40 years of housing with them. If we forgot anyone just remember the good times you had together. She loved everyone, so please do not cry over her, but celebrate her life. The family chain is broken now but memories live forever. She’s going to be missed by her Burr Street Family and other families that know her. The Hicks Family thanks everyone for coming out to celebrate her homegoing. Because of her, we are friends. Because of her, we are family.
One thing is for sure…there will never be another Olivia “Mrs. Molly” Lacey Hicks again.
A graveside service to celebrate Mrs. Molly’s life will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Reese Cemetery. Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
