Oma J. Willbur, age 97, of Galesburg went peacefully to be with her lord on Tuesday evening, February 19, 2013. She was born in Bronson, Michigan on November 12, 1915 the daughter of Truie and Imogene (Clark) Rench.
Jo married Merle A. Willbur in Battle Creek on August 6, 1932; he sadly preceded her in death on December 11, 1969. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Jo Ann McVicker of Galesburg and Sandy (Don) Carley of Delton; 9 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Gerri Willbur and her beloved dogs, “Max” and “Bindi Sue”. Jo was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Richard Willbur and Donald Willbur; a daughter-in-law, Sue Willbur; Son-in-law, Jack McVicker; 2 granddaughters, Cindy Willbur-Griffin and Leisa Beroza; a great-grandson, Nicholas Beroza and 2 sisters, Erma Rench and Wretha Rench.
A genuine example of Christianity, Jo loved her church and her “Lord” above all things and was dedicated to her ministry of sending cards to family and friends. A true matriarch, Jo loved feeding and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed the outdoors, camping, the Upper Peninsula and animals.
At the request of the family, they will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Richland Chapel where funeral services to celebrate “Jo’s” life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday. Interment will follow at Hickory Corners Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan.
