Orval, age 83, died Thursday morning, October 31, 2013 at Kairos Dwelling of Kalamazoo, MI, following a brief illness and surrounded by his loving family.
Orval, the son of Orval and Orletta (Hatch) Hunt, Sr., was born on August 29, 1930 in Lake, MI. He retired after 37 years of faithful service for Post Cereal of Battle Creek in 1987 from the Ink Lab for Cartons Department. Orval and his wife, Shirley enjoyed retirement to the fullest at their cabin in Irons, MI and wintering in Cross Creek, FL. He was an avid fisherman his entire life and had been a great marksman while hunting in his earlier years.
On September 2, 1950 in South Haven, MI, Orval was united in marriage to the love of his life the former Shirley A. French. Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Shirley; his daughter, Sherry L. (Greg) Crawford of Galesburg, MI; his son Orval L. "Larry" (Kathy) Hunt of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Josh (Ashley) Crawford, Hannah (Dustin) Bivins and Kasey (Justin) Dinzik; four great grandchildren, Brendan, Benjamin, Brian and Charlie and his sister, Ida Pearce of Portage, MI. Orval was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Arla Harrington.
The Memorial Service to celebrate Orval's life will be held on Saturday, November 9th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Timothy Episcopal Church, 9800 East BC Avenue, Richland with Father Joel L. Turmo, Rector, as Celebrant. A Memorial Gathering will follow at the Augusta V.F.W. Post # 7956, 13540 West M-96 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Orval's honor may be directed to the Kairos Dwelling, 2654 Gull Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49048. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel is in charge of all the arrangements.
