Patsy Jean Voelker

Patsy Jean (Orphan) Voelker, 90, of Battle Creek died on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Bronson Battle Creek.

Patsy was born April 21, 1931 in Douglas, Arizona, and was the loving daughter of Samuel and Odessa (Thompson) Orphan. Patsy grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and came to Battle Creek at the age of ten. She attended Battle Creek Central High School. She grew up working for her dad, Sam Orphan in his restaurant, "Veteran's Grill" in Battle Creek.

Patsy Jean Orphan married Phillip Harold Voelker on February 1, 1963 in Hastings, Michigan. After marrying Phil, she ran the offices at Battle Creek Glass Company and Barney's Glass Company. Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Phil on January 2, 2010. Surviving are two sons, Lenny Dyer and John Dyer, both of Battle Creek; a daughter-in-law, Nora Dyer of Dowling; grandsons, Justin Dyer of Battle Creek and Dennis Layman of Portage; granddaughter, Jena Dyer of Maryland; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Phil, Patsy was also preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Odessa Orphan; and a son, Thomas Dyer on July 26, 2020.

Patsy was a former president and board member of the Bedford Elsa Lioness Club and a member of the Bedford Lions Club. She and Phil had a close group of friends who got together weekly for dinners, going to the Casino, taking trips together, usually to the cottage in the Upper Peninsula, but also to Vegas and other destinations. Patsy enjoyed being the "Life of the Party" and loved entertaining, and playing cards & dice. Patsy will be remembered for her outgoing personality, her sense of humor, her laugh, and her love of "Bling"!!

Friends will be received 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2022. Committal and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Binder Park Zoo, the Humane Society of South Central Michigan, or the Bedford Lions Club.
