Peggy Sue (Cope) Reed, 89 of Battle Creek died peacefully at Lakeview Assisted Living on Saturday, December 11, 2021, with her family at her side.
Peggy was born November 11, 1932 in McMinnville, Tennessee to Venus Edward and Annie Mary (Womack) Cope. She was last employed as a real estate broker for The Real Estate Company. Peggy was previously employed for Post Cereals and Michigan National Bank.
Peggy Sue Cope married Quinn Jewett Reed, Jr. on June 6, 1953. She was preceded in death by her husband, "Jay" of 52 years on November 2, 2005. Surviving are their two children, Larry L. (Sue) Reed of Battle Creek, Eva L. (Nicholas) Krutsch of Ceresco; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Matt) Burkart, Daniel (Renee) Gresly, Dustin (Mellanie) Jaffke, Holly (Stephen) Frawley, Quinton Reed; eight great-grandchildren, Brody, Mattie, Clair, Cayden, Natalie, Cooper, Gavin, Gunner; her sister, Lillian Minchey of Tennessee; special family, John and Barb Hurdis and their children, Nicole Hurdis-Quenby, Bradley Hurdis; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. In addition to her husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Fred Cope, Gaines Cope and Frank Cope.
Peggy was a devoted member of 20th Street Church of Christ and was one the original founders of the Marshall Church of Christ. Her passions included cooking and baking, growing and arranging flowers; and working in her vegetable garden. She drove the morning kindergarten school bus and when her kids came home in the afternoon there was always a meal in the crock pot or oven ready to go. Peggy also enjoyed following the stock market, and driving around checking up on family and friends. She was a talented seamstress, sewing many of her kid's clothes and even made Eva a bedspread and curtains once. Peggy will be remembered as a wonderful, strong willed woman that always put God and her family first.
Friends will be received 4:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where a funeral service will be officiated Pastor Josh Hydrick 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2021. The service will be Live-Streamed and may be viewed at https://vimeo.com/657836288. Committal and interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
