Peter P. "Pete" Moore of Tallahassee, FL and formerly of Battle Creek, MI
Pete, age 90, died peacefully following a heart attack on Sunday, October 25, 2015. He was born October 27, 1924 in Hamilton, OH, the son of Ollen Moore and Marie (Haungs) Moore.
Pete served his country honorably and nobly during World War II as a paratrooper in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division and served in Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was wounded in action in Holland and earned a Purple Heart and was also decorated for valor receiving two Bronze Service Stars, one Bronze Arrowhead and one Bronze Star Medal. While recovering in Percy Jones Hospital (Battle Creek Federal Center), he met and married Ruth E. Cornwell, who preceded him in death in 1985, after 40 years of marriage. He was fortunate to meet and marry Bessie (Grayson) Miller of Tallahassee. She and her wonderful family were warmly embraced by his family. She preceded him in death in 2012, after 25 years of marriage.
Pete retired from Clark Equipment Co. at age 55, and he and Ruthie spent winters in Lake Havasu City, AZ and summers in his beloved Michigan's Upper Peninsula on Gulliver Lake, where they made many wonderful friends. He was a member of nearby First United Methodist Church in Manistique. He and Bessie spent summers in Gulliver and winters in Tallahassee. Pete enjoyed church activities (especially helping make pasties in Manistique), bowling, fishing and playing cards with his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Ollen Moore, Jr. and Donald Moore, Sr., Ruth and Bessie. He is truly missed by his survivors: devoted special friend, Millie Yarbrough of Tallahassee; lifelong family friends, Ed and Nettie Barnett of Dowling, MI; his daughters, Shari (Don) McClelland of Tallahassee, Patti (Jerry) Cline of Delton, MI, and Nancy (Dan) Randolph of Wildomar, CA; five grandchildren, Steve McClelland of Tallahassee, Lori Walker of Rome, GA, Teri O'Connor of Castle Rock, CO, Jeni Cline of Delton, MI and Dan (Katie) Cline of Bellevue, MI; nine great-grandchildren; step-daughters, Kathy (Steve) Mork of Tallahassee and Lanette (Mark) Williams of Smithfield, NC and step-son, Justin (Susan) Miller of Pensacola, FL; eight step-grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Funeral Service to celebrate Pete's life will be held on Friday, November 6th at 10:30 a.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek, with the Rev.Carolyn A. Robinson-Fisher of Battle Creek, officiating. Interment in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI will follow with the United States Army Honor Guard and the Fort Custer Honor Guard bestowing full military honors. Pete's family will greet friends on Thursday, November 5th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
