Philip Lee Bursley, 87, passed away peacefully in Battle Creek, Friday, October 16, 2015. He was the son of Mae (Bailey) Bursley and Forest Bursley of Charlotte, MI, who preceded him in death.
He graduated from Charlotte High School, then joined the Navy at the end of WWII.
In December of 1948, he married Barbara Jean Horn, his wife of 66 years; she survives. He is further survived by his children, Philip Jeffrey Bursley (Linda), of Holt; Sandra Lampert (Greg), of Battle Creek; Deborah Gothberg (Ken), of Charlotte, MI; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Phil retired from Post Cereals after 38 years. He was very active in the Church of God in Battle Creek (North Ave.), Charlotte and Marshall. He enjoyed many leadership roles including teaching Sunday School, working with youth and traveling all over the world to church conventions with his wife, Barbara.
Other interests included working in the yard, woodworking and building and remodeling homes in which he and the family lived.
Phil's family will greet friends on Monday, October 19, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Farley Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek.
The funeral service and celebration of Phil's life will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at 10:00 AM, at the South Cochran Church of God, 2470 South Cochran, in Charlotte MI, with interment to follow at Bosworth Cemetery.
