Phillip Patrick Hurst, 86, a lifelong Battle Creek, Michigan resident died peacefully at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Phil was born on August 12, 1938, in Battle Creek the son of Clark and Mary (Cox) Hurst. He graduated in 1956 from St. Philip Catholic Central. Phil was employed as an electrician at the Kellogg Company for 39+ years, prior to retiring.
Phillip Patrick Hurst married his high school sweetheart, Johanna Karaba on September 17, 1960 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Johanna; children, Martha (Gary Perkins) Kuehle of Gainesville, VA, Sarah Behnke of Battle Creek, Patrick Hurst of Wilmington, DE, Paul Hurst of Battle Creek; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. Phil was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tom Hurst and a sister, Mary Frances “Frannie” Martin.
Phil was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, sporting events and being outdoors. He loved following his grandchildren’s activities and events. He volunteered for his children’s school activities and events, coached floor hockey, drove the St. Philip team bus and lending a hand as needed. Phil will be remembered for his commitment to his family, warm smile and willingness to help others.
Family and Friends will be received 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care.
