R. Gene Dobbertien

R Gene Dobbertien, 91, died Friday, August 12, 2016, Omaha, NE. She was born December 27, 1924, in Fairbury, NE, and was the only child of Erwin and Ruth (Snyder) Schroeder. After graduating Fairbury High School, she graduated Nurses Training at St Luke's in Denver, Colorado and graduated Nebraska Wesleyan University where she was a sister of Phi Mu sorority. Gene was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church

She married her first husband, Dr. Robert B Muffly, on June 19, 1949, who preceded her in death. She married Henry L Dobbertien September 21, 1980, who sadly preceded her in death November 17, 2014.

Survived by children Kimberly Muffly and Kirk (Beverly) Muffly both of Omaha, NE; Karl(Barbara) Muffly of Tampa, FL; and Kathleen Muffly (David Gustafson) of Minneapolis, MN. Also survived by step children, Kathleen(Dennis) Vollink and Monica(Todd) Johnson, both of Cape Girardeau, MO; Christine Dobbertien(William Figeley), and Thomas(Rhonda) Dobbertien, both of Battle Creek, MI; Ann(James) Holmes of Fort Wayne, IN; and Gregory Dobbertien of Temperance, MI. Additional survivors include nineteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed playing cards, antiquing, traveling, quilting and knitting. She loved animals especially her dog, Frankie. Gene and Henry spent winters in Green Valley, AZ and summers in Battle Creek.

A memorial service will be held at St Thomas Episcopal Church, 16 E. Van Buren St., Battle Creek, Michigan 49017, Friday, August 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery next to her husband Henry. In lieu of flowers, Gene wished donations be made to Doctors Without Borders 333 7th Avenue,New York, NY 10001, and The Humane Society.
