Richard W. "Rich" Baier, age 60, of Delton, MI, died Wednesday morning, June 26, 2013 at The University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI, following a lengthy and courageous battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Rich, the son of Harry and Beatrice (Wheeler) Baier, was born on February 12, 1953 in Detroit, MI; was a 1974 graduate of The University of Michigan with his Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education . He was currently employed as an Auditor for the State of Michigan-Treasury Department. Rich enjoyed University of Michigan Football and Hockey, listening to classical music, traveling and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
On June 7, 1997 in Kalamazoo, MI, Rich was united in marriage to the former Carol J. Cocking and she survives. Also surviving are his two step children, Travis (Tonya) Powell of Kalamazoo and Heather Powell of Lawrenceburg, IN; his sister, Elizabeth (Fred) Hargrave of Rochester Hills, MI; two brothers, George (Jill) Baier of Charlevoix, MI and Henry (Kim) Baier of Manchester, MI. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews, Todd, Geoffrey, Dana, Brandon, Justin, Jonathan, Jeremy, Elizabeth, Patricia, Terry and Jesse. Rich was preceded in death by his parents.
The Memorial Service to celebrate Rich's life will be held on Tuesday, July 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89) with the Rev. James D. Hill of Gull Lake, officiating. Family and friends are invited to continue Rich's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon immediately following the Memorial Service. Final interment will be in Flint Memorial Park, Flint, MI. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 1st from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
