Richard Clay Henderson, 70, of Sturgis and formerly of Battle Creek passed away at Medilodge of Marshall, on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
Rick was born June 19, 1953, in Battle Creek, Michigan to Walter Kenneth and Audrey F. (Eager) Henderson. He grew up in Battle Creek and was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Richard then honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy until 1972. He was employed in commercial sales for several companies prior to his retirement.
Surviving are his daughter, Jessica (Matthew) Koyl of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Daimien Ruddock, Matte Koyl, Niles Herr, Alayna Koyl; stepfather, Robert (Jean) Doe of White Pigeon; stepmother, Ethlyn Henderson of Springfield Illinois; two sisters, Adele (Lee Steele) Kelley of Murrells Inlet, SC, Bonnie (Frank) Hendrickson of Battle Creek; two brothers, Andrew Henderson of Battle Creek, Clayton Henderson of Springfield, IL; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Doe and his father, Walter Henderson.
Richard was a member of the Sturgis Fraternal Order of Eagles. He loved going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, golfing, cornhole, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Richard will be remembered as someone who never met a stranger, for his outgoing manner, his intelligence and love of friends and family.
A gathering to celebrate Richard’s life will be held at the Sturgis Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 1207 W. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22nd. Military honors and inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care.
