Richard H. "Dick" Jones

Richard (Dick) Harold Jones, Sr., 84 years old, passed on Monday, October 3, 2016. Richard was born October 2, 1932 in Lansing, MI, as the only child of Teresa M. (Hall) Jones and William L. Jones. Richard graduated from Sandusky High School in 1951 and joined the Air Force; serving as Airmen First Class in the Korean War from 1952 until 1956, receiving the National Defense Service Award. He married Carolyn E. (Frazier) Jones on October 10th, 1959 at Bedford Church in Bedford, MI.

Richard is survived by his wife; Carolyn E. (Frazier) Jones, and their children; Richard (Rich) H. Jones, Jr and Sheryl J. Rush; Christopher A. and Christine M. (Wrubel) Jones; CheriJon E. (Jones) and Steven B. Gustafson; Matthew B. and Jody K. (Frailey) Jones; and Craig S. and Kristen L. (Heath) Jones and Sister in Law; Nancy (Fraizer) Getman. His grandchildren: Dustin Frailey, Shauna (Frailey) and TJ Brauer, Mitchell Frailey, Jonathan R. Jones, Cynthia R. Jones, Hannah M. Jones, Katelynn R. B. Jones, Britton J. Gustafson, Stephanie N. Jones, Hunter M. Jones, Austin C. Gustafson, Carson J. Gustafson, Nicholas A. Jones, Josie M. H. Jones, and Jadyn M. Jones and Jordyn M. Jones; and Great-Grandchild; Charlotte K. Brauer.

He was employed at the Battle Creek Gas company as Crew Leader from 1957 through 1995; receiving 2 awards that honored 25 years of Safe Driving Excellence. He was a devoted participant in hunting and fishing since the age of 14, and included his sons in his seasonal trips for the past 42 years. He pitched for many softball games, first alone, then playing on teams that included all the Jones men. He actively followed the Tigers, the Lions and Michigan games, was enthusiastic about harness racing and enjoyed his winters in Florida. Richard supported all Scouting; participating first with his children, then with his grandchildren.

Richard and Carolyn traveled the United States with their children as they were growing. Later, as the children grew and moved out, they enjoyed trips further afield, traveling together to Alaska, Hawaii, Jamaica, Europe and the Caribbean.

Visitation will be at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 105 Capital Avenue, Battle Creek on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services for Richard will be held on Friday, October 7th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.

Richard will be remembered as a loving and involved husband, father and grandfather. We will miss you in our lives.
