Richard Eugene Loder of Zeeland, Michigan (formerly of Battle Creek) died Saturday, January 17, 2015, surrounded by his family at Zeeland Hospital in Zeeland, Michigan. Richard was born October 12, 1928 in Jewell, Iowa and was the son of Raleigh and Ruth (McKinley) Loder. Dick was a graduate of Webster City High School. Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 1, 1946 and served in Japan until his discharge on August 16, 1947. Dick married Marge (Hylton) Loder on November 12, 1952 in Angola, Indiana. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Randy & Debbie Price of Holland, MI; his daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Neale & Cindy Searle of Lake Orion, MI; grandchildren, Drs. Jason & Erin Charnley; Mr. & Mrs. Ryan and Bri Reardon; Jessica and Kyle Searle; four great grandsons, Carter and Cole Charnley and AJ and Andrew Reardon and a great-granddaughter, Livia Charnley. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Maxine Allen of DesMoines, IA and Mrs. Jean Morphet of West Lafayette, Indiana. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a brother & sister, his wife, Marjorie L. Loder and his son Richard E. Loder II.
Dick was employed by Gambles, Eaton Manufacturing and also worked at Waites Party Store, Wattles Park Hardware and Lakeview Hardware. Dick was also a custodian at Lakeview Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home in Battle Creek on Friday January 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon. Adam Metzger, Pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church will be officiating. Military honors and committal will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Binder Park Zoo.
